Internet Censorship Bill Protect IP Act

Internet Censorship Bill Protect IP Act:I've been participating online since before the web and for the past 15 years it has been a vital part of my day-to-day work. If these acts pass, if service providers become liable for the content their users post, it will stifle both economic and creative expression. That's the last thing we need in this economy. The Protect IP Act and Stop Online Piracy Act, which are being introduced into Congress, could spell trouble for gamers, especially for those who like to show off their skills online. Everyday, hundreds of gamers upload video footage of their "runs" or game play onto Youtube, but if these two acts go through, these videos will be considered copyright infringement.

Thousands of videos online feature game play from some of the world's most popular games like Call of Duty, Halo, and others; and for the most part, they've been considered "fair use" the same way videos of people singing along to copyrighted music material is seen. The acts also circumvent due process, preventing uploaders for contesting the removal of their materials.

Those in opposition to the Protect IP and Stop Online Piracy Acts argue that it gives too much power to the corporate interests that would then be allowed to bully internet service providers, creating a more censored, less free internet.
