Vince Young

There they were again — in the fourth quarter, with a lead, victory less than three minutes away. This time, the Eagles didn’t squander it. Finally, they didn’t blow it.Vince Young threw a go-ahead 8-yard touchdown pass to Riley Cooper with 2:45 to play and the undermanned Philadelphia Eagles finally got things right in the fourth quarter, posting a 17-10 victory over the New York Giants. They held on Sunday night on the road against their division rivals, beating the Giants 17-10 at MetLife to stay afloat in the NFC East race.

The Eagles drove 80 yards on 18 plays in the fourth quarter Sunday night against the Giants, swallowing up almost nine minutes, and went ahead on Vince Young’s eight-yard touchdown pass to Riley Cooper.

“It’s definitely a big win,” said Young. “You see the excitement and the smiles on the guys and that’s what we need, what we have to have.”

On the drive, they converted six third downs, including the touchdown catch by Cooper, who had no catches going into the game and finished with 75 yards on five catches.

“We were taking our time, making plays and the guys came up with big plays on third down,” Young said.

“Vince, stepping in for the great Michael Vick, that’s a tough thing to do and he did it and the guys rallied around him,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said. “The offensive line and defensive line played well, the offensive line had a huge challenge when it counted and they were able to put some things together.”

More importantly, when the Giants got the ball back with 2:39 to play, the Eagles defense responded from another major breakdown that could have led to another late-game loss.

After confusion on defense cleared the way for Giants quarterback Eli Manning’s 47-yard reception to the Philadelphia 21-yard-line, Jason Babin sacked Manning on the next play, forcing a fumble that Derek Landri recovered to give the Eagles possession with 1:17 to play.

Finally, the Eagles came up with a big fourth-quarter stop and it came against the NFL’s toughest fourth-quarter team.

The Giants, who had fourth-quarter comebacks in five of their six victories, dropped their second straight game and to keep the Eagles and Cowboys hot on their tails for the NFC East title.
